Likus Hotels and Restaurants as a partner of the event, is pleased to invite you to the exhibition of Roy Pickering works, well-known and respected throughout the world painter. Roy Pickering, has been painting and exhibiting for more than 35 years. He now lives in Nottinghamshire, in the heart of Sherwood Forest, and works in a studio converted from an old cowshed on a working farm. His paintings display strong ties to the land; to the ancient forests, artistocratic estates, and an industrial landscape of former coal mines and quarries. His paintings display a commitment to and faith in the validity of the medium of paint and the power of drawing. Images are infused with fragmentary structure, recalled in memory from experience and vision, returning the viewer to the act of seeing and engendering contemplation. The paintings evoke a strong sense of time and place as much as a state of fragility ; seductive surfaces mask a darker vision of melancholy, loss, time, and memory. These paintings are firmly located in an ongoing tradition of British landscape art. Roy Pickering’s most recent large exhibition was at the Kenya National Museum, Nairobi, in 2011, and was the first solo exhibition by a foreign artist at this prestigious venue.
